Goal setting in the new year

Every new year brings us a new opportunity to start fresh, with new resolutions and new goals. Setting goals helps us to become the best version of ourselves. We want to encourage you to take a moment to think about what your health goals are for 2021. Next, think about what the end result will look like. How will your life be improved by accomplishing these new goals?

Did you know that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down on a regular basis? One of your health goals this year may be to eat more green veggies, or to walk two miles every day – whatever your goal is, write it down!

Here is a list of health goals that you might consider:

1.            Eat more whole foods – These items include whole grain flours, brown and wild rice, organic produce, sustainably farmed or wild-caught seafood, organically raised meats, free-range eggs, and unprocessed dairy products.

2.            Get active – Choose to take the stairs, take a walk after dinner, or maybe spend 20 minutes of your morning routine stretching.

3.            Drink more water – Try to replace one daily soda or sugary drink with water. Increasing our water intake significantly affects our energy levels and brain function.

4.            Get quality sleep – Stop watching TV and turn off any bright lights 2 hours before heading to bed. This can help maintain your natural sleep cycle.

5.            Spend more time outdoors – Chose to read your new favorite book outside. Fresh air can help give you more energy and mental focus.

6.            Cut back on sugary treats – Next time you are ready for dessert, try snacking on fruit instead of candy or cakes. Fruit consumption is linked to a wide range of health benefits.
